I became really interested in Ted Shawn’s style of dance
because it was- and is- very influential to other dancers. Because of him, male dancers had the
opportunity and assurance to pursue dance. His artistic and innovative style also promoted a lot of
change in the modern dance world, which I find very inspiring. I view his
whole movement and ideals very intriguing. |

As I watch Ted Shawn, I can’t help but become inspired. His movement is strange and unusual,
but as a whole it is rather beautiful.
The various shapes he molds the body into are genius. He also uses floor patterns and cannons
that force movement of the viewers’ eyes to different points of the stage. I really like this choreographic aspect
because it draws the audience in and engages them throughout the
performance.

What really touches my heart about Ted Shawn is
that despite his condition and lack of physical strength, he fought and
ventured until he proved he could not only walk again, but dance too. His personal story lets his audience
and followers understand the emotion and reason behind his dancing. His enthusiasm for dance is expressed
through his movement and choreography.
This, more than words, really shows just how passionate and dedicated
